Bingo. Nobody is subscribed directly with a bellsouth address. Thus we are
assuming it is being forwarded or redirected... and the bounce message is
so uninformative that we can't tell what's going on.

Yeah, that's a reasonable idea, but I just hate spamming people. On the
other hand, is spam permissable so as to prevent more spam? (Gee, this
could turn into a philosophical discussion on the death penalty being ok
because it might prevent murders...)
I did put in a block for the bounce message, but apparently I didn't get it
quite right. I'll try again, next time I'm hacking on the list server
machine.
