I'm glad to see that our speech is in fact sinking in :-)
Honestly, most of the intent is to make sure you guys realize what paints
you into a corner and what doesn't. (And to make sure when you pass on
your hack information to a newbie hacker, that you mention the
danger/limitation as well.)
There are some valid times to write an non-upwardly-compatible app, just so
long as it does sane checks to make sure it doesn't break badly on some
future device such that the user's data or hardware is harmed.
