NPR had a special on software piracy today. They had some guy from
the SPR (or SPA?) who claimed that about 25% of sales in the US were
lost due to piracy.

IMHO, that's a relatively small loss. Some people are suggesting major
coding efforts here, with questionable improvement in the final
product. In fact, it's quite likely that legitimate buyers will
get bitten by any planned "traps"; a very poor reward
for someone who paid good money (to you) for your program.

if we spend that same amount of effort on developing newer, cooler programs
(Hey, where's that color screen anyway, Palm?) we'll make far more in
profits than we will by scaring the 25% (or whatever) of people that
are too cheap to buy our legit programs.
