I seem to remember hearing that there is a 'features list' API call, to find
out if for the current hardware a certain feature is available? I think that
'software contrast' is one of those features. Evidently the OS checks this
list and says "nope, no contrast dialog for you!"...
Might be barking up the completely wrong forest, though...
