D'accord -- "grep" is not the answer to searching. Fortunately
it is not the only way to search HTML. For that matter, even
if you do use "grep", you can write scripts around it to make
the output come up in the browser & click on the found text
to go to the place where it was found.

Why do you say this as if it couldn't be done in HTML?
Index panes are rather commonly used.

That is the only thing that everybody has agreed upon about the
PDF format: that it is good for printing. Unfortunately, that's
about the -only- thing that it is better at than HTML format docs
would be.
