Phone Tone Question

Greetings all.

I am just getting into development on this platform and I am wondering if
the following is possible.

I want to emulate the tones of the telephone keypads so my Palm device can
dial numbers for my by placing it up next to pickup of the handset.

About 7 years ago I had a device that would do just that and it was quite
handy.  I am thinking of this for a "getting started/Hello World" type
project.

I invite any and all comments.

and if any of you steal this idea...  ;)
