I usually try to avoid non-development topics on this forum, but the
combination of David-bashing and complaints about the location of the
developer's conference beg me to respond. On the former subject, I have
found David to be extremely helpful, and I would say he's anything but
arrogant.
As for the conference, I realized when attending as a newbie last year that
it was worth every penny and then some. I know it's a long trip for some,
but what people have to realize is that Palm really makes their top people
accessible at this conference, so it would be pretty tough to turn it into a
travelling roadshow. I had the opportunity to talk at length with some of
Palm's brightest stars last year, and it went a long way toward turning me
into a productive Palm developer. I attend a lot of conferences, and Palm
Dev Con '98 was the best I've ever seen.
One more comment, then I'll put my developer's hat back on... I know that
Palm can be frustrating at times re: keeping developers "in the loop", but
they are protecting their secrets just like any of us commercial developers
are. As someone who is working with both Microsoft development products and
Palm/Metrowerks products on a daily basis, I can say that I would take
Palm's support over MS's anyday. Slick packaging does not a better product
make...
'Nuff said. Now I'll get back to work.
