different operating systems, different philosophies. unix has no 
associations and it works too... 
most windows installers that change file associations ask 
beforehand. i open my c files always with the same editor and 
dont like if a "creator" program would be started instead. but as 
always: just a matter of personal preferences. 

a dialog box asking wether change associations or not is 5 minutes work.
