Well, uh, if you READ THE DOCUMENTATION!!!!! it says

MenuEraseStatus [...]

        MenuP   Pointer to a MenuBarType data structure, or NULL for
                the current menu.

Perhaps there are other circumstances in which one might want to
know which is the active menu...
