Serial cable

I'm new to Palm developement and I just subscribed to the list.  I noticed
someone mentioned using two COM ports and the same PC. One connected to a
test program and the other to the POSE. I would like to do the same thing.
Is there anything special to the loop cable ?  Other than just a null modem
cable ?
