There is even one hack which does exactly what you
propose ... it watches what you write, and if it
matches something, changes it to something else.
This can be used to either correct words you commonly
misspel, or to create your own shrthnd for big words.

It's called "CorrectHack" and is available at

Sorry, but I don't think the source for this
is available, but knowing something can be done
is sometimes half the battle!
