Actually, you misread my original message. I was having problems with the Palm VII talking to another device (not the PC), whereas the emulated Palm VII under POSE did talk to the other serial device. But I managed to resolve that one on my own anyway, so help is no longer needed. Thanks anyway.

Now it seems to work(mostly). The biggest difference may be NT (since I'm
using 98). You also may want to use a NULL modem cable at least on the NT
side. I've seen several instances where this helped the PC's UART.
