Cmd.exe on NT understands the "command 2> file" syntax to redirect stderr.

What about figuring out what that 14MB costs? This is the year 2000.
Looking at the back of last week's Metro, I see a Fry's ad (9.1GB SCSI
for 189 USD) which implies that that 14MB costs you about 29 cents!

But perhaps you want to spend more than 29 cents of your time figuring out
what you can get rid of. You could start by rereading the web page:

If you don't need all those tools and don't want to waste the
space, a user tools only Cygwin (3 Mb) [...]

If 6 cents is still too much, it's possible that you can get by with just
the DLL after you've run the installer, which itself uses large amounts
of Cygwin. Although it seems you are using make and could benefit from
bash...

John "a big Cygwin value for a low low cost of only 29 cents!
(and possibly only 16 retries at Fry's to get one that works)"
