I've done it with a Linux desktop with an IRDA eye hanging off the
front. It Just Works (TM)
All you need to do is tell the pppd to use the 'serial port' which is
actually the eye, and tell the Palm to use "IR to a PC/handheld" as the
Connection in the Network prefs panel.
