Thanks for filling in the details. IIRC there is another work-around for
users of older OSes. I don't remember whether you want to be running the
launcher or want to NOT be, but I think one or the other will prevent the
data from being deleted.

All of this gives developers something to tell users who complain. The
work-around I suggested might prevent the complaints in the first place.
Given how ugly the work-around is, you might prefer to let the users
complain. :)
