memopad 4k limit

Forgive me if this question has been asked and answered many times before,
but I don't see it in Knowledgebase or anywhere else...

Does anyone know why, exactly, there is a 4k limit on memopad text that can
be entered?  I have theories, but wonder if anyone knows for sure?
