PalmOS gcc users,
On a report from Jeff Collins, I have found a bug that has existed in all
versions of PalmOS gcc since prc-tools-0.5.0 in the code that unpacks the
initialized data from the data 0 resource for GLibs and, in the current
version, for other non-applications and for applications with manufactured
data. (This bug also exists in John Marshall's version, but there it makes no
difference as GLibs are defunct there and that version makes no other use of
manufactured data.) This bug manifests itself in a guaranteed crash or hang
upon trying to unpack the initialized data when it has been packed with one of
the special patterns (codes 01-04) caught. This bug didn't manifest itself in
prc-tools-0.5.0 because the data compressor in obj-res from prc-tools-0.5.0 and
earlier was very obtuse and didn't actually do any compression. In the current
version, however, the new obj-res has a real data compressor (John's
contribution respectfully acknowledged), making this old bug visible.
I have just fixed this bug for prc-tools-0.6.0beta. In this version the code in
question is in manufdata.c in the crt library. The fixed manufdata.c is in
/pub/embedded/palmos on ivan.Harhan.ORG. Replace your old manufdata.c with this
one and rebuild and reinstall the crt library, libcrt.a.
