You should know C. I don't know what you consider "extensive". If you don't think
you know C then the class is not for you.
If you are uneasy about the idea of programming in C then the class is probably not
for you.
It covers NetLib but not INetLib.
The labs are all CodeWarrior, except the Conduit stuff which is MSVC.
A good portion of the class is about user interface. There's a section on network
programming, conduit development,
and network programming. Since Symbol has taken over the program I imagine there's a
stronger Symbol API component
than when I went.
Not sure if I can do a nice "pros/cons" thing.
It was fast paced, and not much time was spent going over basic C. There were people
there who were not experienced
C programmers who kept up but probably didn't get as much out of it as they would have
otherwise.
If you're an experienced network programmer and want to go to learn more about
networking in PalmOS don't bother;
Pick up the reference manual. All the functions are the same as in UNIX, just named
differently. If you're not an
experienced network programmer and want to go to learn more about networking in PalmOS
don't bother; not much
more than the extreme basics of network theory are covered. If you want to learn more
about INetLib don't bother, it's
not covered.
The stuff about the memory model and UI programming is incredibly useful. This is all
Palm specific stuff.
When I went the class was taught by Neil Rhodes, who wrote the O'Reilly book. If
you're the kind of person who
does just as well from a book as from a class, then just go buy the book. However, I
thought that the stuff about the memory
model was covered much better in class than in the book. Your mileage may vary.
The class is worth going to, if you're going to do serious C programming and want to
get a jump start and save yourself
time looking for the right clues in the various manuals and books that are out there.
