Why do you need to know the specific device model?

Why are those tests not sufficient to make your code work? Is your app
supposed to run only on an actual IIIc device, or should it work on any
(future) device which also has certain features that the IIIc presently has,
such as OS version 3.5 or higher and color support?

This question comes up a lot. To put it in perspective, should a Windows
developer ever ask, "What is the recommended way for an app to detect if
it's running on a Compaq DeskPro?"
