I'm just finishing a GPS-based app that I'm testing with the Rand McNally
unit - the RM unit isn't as fast in acquisition as the Garmin in my car, but
it's a great handheld unit to integrate with the Palm. It talks standard
NMEA on the serial port just like any other GPS on the market though, so
there's no specific code needed to support it.
In terms of code to share I'd recommend the O'Reilly 'Palm Programming
Developer's Guide'
(http://www.palm.com/devzone/docs/pptdg/ch09.htm#P32_1204) Serial chapter as
a starting point which covers reading NMEA using the Palm serial port.
There are also many other NMEA resources on the web in terms of protocol
references.
Commercial apps that I'm already using successfully are the GPS Pilot
suite - Compass, Tracker & Atlas (http://www.GPSpilot.com/) and Route Europe
by Palmtop Software (http://www.palmtop.nl/palm/routeeur.html).
