Have any of you been working on sub-pixel rendering on the Palm IIIc?
It's something that basically only works on color LCDs. It's the
coolest thing I've read about it quite a while.

Here's an article and lots of great stuff by Steve Gibson:

And this page has the details of how it works:

This seems like a no brainer for the Palm IIIc. I'd love a text
reader that uses this technology. Is there one already out there for
PalmOS? I know that WinCE has a reader that uses this same idea but
they call it "Microsoft ClearType." The idea has been around for 20+
years since at least the days of the Apple II. Anyway, I've heard the
text looks fabulous, but I haven't seen it. In my small tests on the
IIIc it's obvious that it's a great idea.

I'm wondering if there are already any programs using sub-pixel
rendering, whether the PalmOS is likely to implement it (and whether
that would make sense), if there are any good tools (for Mac?) to
render b&w text or art like this, and in general - what do y'all
think? I could definitely use a tool on the Mac to help me create
sub-pixel rendered artwork and text for color versions of stuff I'm
working on.

If there isn't a Doc Reader that supports sub-pixel rendering for
PalmOS yet then I think this is a great opportunity for a developer
to make something really cool that's already well understood and that
would make a great product.
