I can understand some of the confusion (if his confusion is the same as mine). The tutorial touts the benefits of "edit in place", where the field points directly at the data in the record rather than a temporary image of it. This gets a bit weird when the record contains multiple null-terminated variable length strings. I don't think it's possible to do edit-in-place on something like this, right?
