Memory of computers during the 60s was made up of modules, not very large in
size (about 1 or 2 K). It was called core memory. I bought one at a surplus
store once. I wish I had kept it. Each bit was a small metal washer about
1/16 inch in diameter. Through it ran three lines for addressing and reading
the data. They were called the x, y, z lines.
The whole thing was placed in a metal box about the size of a shoe box.
