It appears to be Windows only (but all windows), and only with
PalmPlugin.dll version 1.6.3 build 11. Build 9 is also available on the
Metrowerks FTP site in the archived folders. It does not have this problem.
Nor does build 11 of the PalmPlugin on the Mac. It has been logged on bug
number WB1-15024. I would suggest that anyone who debugs with this
technique to use nothing later than the build 9 version.

I should add that I'm doing all this under Windows NT 4.0 with Service
Pack 5 installed.

Thanks for the information about the Register Window. I will log this
bug.

I'm not the original poster but reproduced the problem simply by:

1) Installing CWr6. I have the latest version running (4.0.1 build
0436).

2) Installing the 'sdk35-update1.zip' file which is available from
PalmOS and contains updated PalmOS 3.5 headers.

3) There is an additional update 'PalmPlugin1-6-3b0011.zip' which I
think is available from Metrowerks. I have NOT installed this update
(which simply contains two replacement DLLs that live in the CW
\bin\plugins\Debugger folder). If I DO install them CW will fatally
crash while debugging when you attempt to open the register window.
Please note I simply took a backup of my original Disassembler68K.dll
and PalmPlugin.dll before replacing them with the newer files contained
in the update. The updated dlls crash CW, restoring the older dlls I
backed up makes the problem go away.

Hope that helps?

I would be glad to test this out and log it as a bug in our database so
it
can be fixed. Would someone (original poster perhaps?) send me a
step-by-step guide to reproducing the problem?

The crash happens every time on both Win98 and NT 4 machines.
Happens debugging on either POSE or a real device.

CW6 IDE 4.0.1 build 0436
Includes latest patch from Metrowerks/Palm for Palm OS developement
aka
Update 1 to the 3.5 SDK
PalmPlugin1-6-3b0011.zip

Message box contents:
Unhandled exception: c0000005
At address: 0023555a

After this CodeWarrior MUST be terminated.

This prevents any possibility of resetting the Program Counter register
to
rerun a section of code. Which is a very useful debugging technique
sometimes.

Any help?

Randy Maxwell
