Personally I wouldn't like that (what if I'm repeating a previous find and happen to have some other junk selected?) but there's something equivalently convenient: Use cmd-e (on windows it's probably ctrl-e), it's in the Search menu, it enters any selected text into the find dialog. So for instance I often double-click a word to select it, cmd-e, cmd-f and the dialog is up with the search word in place.
