If you want to do any sort of bulk or rare path image conversion, I highly suggest
DeBabelizer. It's UI is a bit clunky, but it has
a ton of features for pallete conversion and format parameters. I have seen this used
already for getting a lot of image files in
GIF and PNG to BMP for Palm application development.
