This is probably best answered by someone from PalmOS/Access, but I'll stab
at it. Cobalt was supposed to be a major revision to the PalmOS. Old
programs would potentially have to be rewritten if they did not run in a
compatability mode, much like how older programs may or may not run on OS5
machines.  Around the time that it would have been appropriate for Palm to
make their push into new Cobalt machines, PalmOS was acquired by Access.
The focus of the new company has been to put PalmOS on a Linux base. Cobalt
was shelved in favor of that new project.

If you go to Access' website to obtain development tools, you will find
Garnet tools but no longer find Cobalt tools. You can google for old press
releases if you want the features of Cobalt.

Access seems to even get confused about Palm, PalmOS, PalmSource, etc. On
their page touting their upcoming Linux product they talk about combining
Linux with PalmSource - but PalmSource is their 3rd party software sales
site, not the PalmOS stuff. Or, maybe I'm confused too...
