Writing a conduit to update an Excel database is definitely not simple. The Excel ODBC driver is read only, so you would have to use the Office Object Model. You are really talking COM conduits here, and that is just on the desktop side.
Then there is the question of money. Perhaps that is what you mean by simple. It would add to your credibility if you quoted some sort of budget here.
