I'm at my wits end and I don't know where else to post.

I've been using the same Windows 2000 Pro computer for my Palm dev for 5 or so
years now, and I thought it would be nice to upgrade. I have a brand new
computer with a fresh install of XP SP2. Time to move my CW over.

First I need to vent about how ridiculous it is to have to go to three
different websites, and sign up separately as a developer for each one to get
all the SDKs and patches.

So a fresh install of CW 9. I go to freescale to get the patch and there are
no instructions whatsoever. Just links to patches. No warning that says I need
to install the 9.2 update before the 9.3 update.

[lots of other detail and hair pulling left out.]

So fresh CW install number 2. Apply 9.2

This is what I was running on the old computer. My projects compile fine.

The problem comes when I run the Simulator. In particular, when it starts to
communicate with the serial port. My application connects to hardware and
communicates continuously. If I do not connect the hardware, the simulator
(just about all versions I've tried) works fine. If I connect the hardware, it
communicates fine for 1-10 seconds and then stops. The simulator becomes
unresponsive, but the program is still running, sending characters trying to
connect to the hardware. The hardware is responding, but the simulator doesn't
see it. At this point you have to end the palmsim.exe process in the task
manager which usually crashes CW.

The program runs fine in the emulator. The same program runs fine on the
simulator on the old computer.

I thought it was maybe the USB to serial adapter I was using (old computer had
a real serial port) even though I know using the adapter worked on the old
computer. So I bought a real 16550 UART PCI com port. Still, same thing.

The 6.1 simulator using the debug rom (which is the only one I can seem to
find) does seem to work, but it's so slow it's not even funny. The data rate
is about half of what it normally is with the 5.2 sim or even the emulator
running 4.1.

I know this is long, but any ideas at all?

I looked into the Eclipse based IDE from Access and found it very disappointing
that there wasn't an easy way to import CW projects. I bought CW because I
don't want to have to deal with makefiles, etc. Also, based on the readme, I'm
worried the palm dev suite will interfere with the cygwin used by another
eclipse based IDE I am using.

Thanks for any help!
-Mike
