I recommend to switch to eclipse. CW is old, and no longer updated. As far as the simulator, why are you trying to connect to external hardware? I don't see any reason to...
Try getting a real device simulator @ pdn.palm.com (sorry to send you to another site). Something like the new Centro simluator. It could help a lot.
