I'd recommend something a little more recent, such as O'Reilly's
JavaScript guide.
The 5th edition includes Ajax and DOM Scripting, which is very essential!

If you are looking for JavaScript manuals, you could do a lot worse than the
original Netscape DevEdge ones, which you can find at
http://devedge-temp.mozilla.org/library/manuals/ . The chapter on the object
model, at
http://devedge-temp.mozilla.org/library/manuals/2000/javascript/1.5/guide/ob
j2.html is definitely worth a read.
