In this case the device teams did not want to have any announcements go out
until today. We certainly did talk to them about sending out information
either on Friday night or on the weekend, but it was their call as to when
and how to announce, and so we gave them input and then we went with what
they decided.
But: please send to me your feedback on why you needed to know beforehand,
and what sorts of details you'd have needed to know, and the impact it had
or would have on your business. Saying "tell me everything 3 weeks
beforehand" doesn't always fit well with their needs and priorities, but
hopefully we can find a middle ground that respects their needs as well as
yours.
For example: if a week beforehand we said we were planning an announcement
which would be made Monday morning at 9am, so you knew to check in a
certain place at a certain time, would that meet your needs? Sure it'd be
nicer to know everything, but the developer community is now way too large
to keep anything under wraps.
