Trying to chase down why a PQA and a PRC (using iNetLib), each of which provides POP access to some remote POP3 account (through an intermediate server) give wildly different network responses. The PQA seems to zing through palm.net but the PRC (which also must go through palm.net) is very sluggish in comparison. By my calculations, the message size being transfered from the device is the same, or slightly in favor of the PRC, so message size is not being considered as the culprit. The PQA is robust. The PRC often will get a 1413 error code (Read Timeout) when accessing the same mail account! I know that there may be differences at our server end (we're still looking for them, but finding nothing). It has occurred to me that the proxy server at palm.net might give preferential treatment to PQA traffic over raw iNetLib requests. Has anyone any insight into this possibility and how to circumvent the problem, short of leaving the Palm platform for some CE device? :-) I've asked Palm several times, but still no answer. I suspect that they don't want to confirm my suspicions.
