I've personally found that I only need to write directly to the graphics
registers on OLD palms (i.e., < OS 3.5) as a way of creating a graphics
"glue" library.

If Palm added 3.5 graphics capabilities to an official graphics glue
library, then I wouldn't need to hack the LCD registers at all.

Of course, you never know if that need will come up in the future as
well.  :)
