I have also had serial port problems on Windows 2000(SP1). I have lost
both the ability to debug a remote Palm device via the serial port
(using CodeWarrior R6) and to hotsync the palm device with the Palm
Desktop. Lost of hot syncing has caused me a great deal of grief and I
am one step away from over installing the OS to try to restore the
hotsync. No combination of uninstalling and reinstalling software,
checking the Windows registry and .ini files or reinstalling the older
version of the emulator has fixed the problem.
I am unsure about cause-and-effect as it was some five hours between
installing the emulator 3.07a and loss of the ability to hotsync. I do
not remember if I had rebooted at the time I lost the hotsync. I had
been successfully using the emulator 3.06a for some months.
When attempting to hotsync the Palm device, sometimes I get the 'hotsync
progress' dialog with the heading it is 'identifying the user'.
However, a user name never appears and nor am I prompted for a user for
synchronising the Palm device (after a hard-reset). The Palm device
always times-out.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Subject: Re: Serial Problems with the new emulator
One more thing i noticed. After I open the 3.0a7 emulator, i can't get
the
3.0a6 emulator to use the serial port. If i restart the computer, reset
the
COM port in 3.0a6, the serial port still doesn't work. But if i try to
use
the 3.0a7, the serial port works. Either something between the two is
really messed up, or I have done something strange. Yesterday
afternoon,
the only one i could get to work was the 3.0a6, and now its the 3.0a7.
Right now, as long as one works, I'm good.
