For what it's worth, if you really do a hard reset, your app and all
your data will vanish. A hard reset is where you hold down the power
button while poking at the reset hole in the back. Simply poking the
reset hole, while not holding down any other buttons at all, is called
a soft reset.
When you do a soft reset, Palm OS launches every installed app with a
system reset launch code. If your PilotMain routine is not correctly
written, it will crash the device *again* when it gets this launch
code. That can cause the symptom you are seeing. To get around this, do
a no-notify reset: hold the UP button while poking the reset hole, and
continue holding the UP button until you see the Palm OS splash screen,
then release the UP button.
