It's a guideline. A GUIDELINE, NOT a LAW. You don't have to stay
completely
inside them, if your client demands otherwise.
Yes yes yes, I know, I'm a very bad person, but I work for a corporation,
and what basics the client wants, the client gets. My clients are NOT all
Palm users. 95% of them can't write their names in Graffiti. However,
their IQ's are NOT below 100. They find the way to exit their program
that they want to. There are times when you are obliged as a developer to
say "wait a minute, do you really need to network hotsync 5 times a day?"
and there are times where you just say "sure, no problem".
It's so unbelievably amazing to me...I wonder exactly how many developers
actually say to their clients "we're sorry, we can't do that, because adding
two lines of code is damaging to the Palm Philosophy". That's really a
naive way to do business, IMO.
Arrgh, this entire thread is a complete and utter waste of my time. If
my client wants something, they'll get it.
If I were to argue that adding something as simple as an exit button (which
IS negligable, and it's quibbling over bread crumbs, IMO) was a means to
uphold a client's standard pre-existing process...no one would care about
that. You see, it "deviates" from the Palm methodology.
Our clients are working in a warehouse. Our vendor doesn't train any of
them. Tapping a button with a house on it isn't as obvious as tapping a
button that says "EXIT" on it.
Arrgh.
