...For specific niche apps, there is a workaround for the "Hard reset" case:
you could have your app stored in the device's ROM memory so the hard reset
won't wipe it out. There are certain conditions that need to be met in order
for such a solution to work, though: the device should support FlashROM
(forget or all Visors, PIIIe, PIIIxe and maybe more), there should be enough
free ROM space for your app, you will eventually need to pre-install the app
and some others.
Such an approach is possible and there are solutions based on it.
