If this idea doesn't work, then it could be that your cradle has been
damaged.  I'd go borrow (or purchase and return) another Palm V and 
check to see if it's the cradle, or your Palm's serial port.  Don't know
if the warranty will cover it, especially not if it's blatent damage.  
If a defective part was used in it, you might be able to get it replaced
for free.
