Well, using GCC or Codewarrior, you could do your project completely in
C or C++ using the PalmOS 3.5 SDKs and net libraries...I'd also look into
supporting the Palm V OmniSky or Palm V with one of the third party modems.
There are already a few chat programs available, I think there might be one
or two on www.palmgear.com . (Just to give you an idea of how the
technology works)
Since you're college students, I'd advise GCC or Codewarrior Lite...and
since
it sounds like you may be marketing this solution, I'd say stick with GCC.
www.falch.net is a good resource for GCC information.
I'd guess a J2ME conduit could work pretty well for you in this case...
Delve into the PalmOS manuals and Knowledge Base. Also, check out the
O'Reilly guide to PalmOS programming. Here's a link to a web preview:
http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/docs/devguide/TableOfContents.htm
If you have any conduit questions that aren't answered in the archives
(check the link at the bottom of this email, I prefer eScribe, personally),
post them to the conduit forum. There are a number of people currently
implementing J2ME web-based conduits.
Hope that helps!
