Philip.
Of all the printer drivers out there, I am only aware of one that is
"Royalty Bearing". There may be more, but the majority are either free or a
one time cost to the user (and free to any other programmer to integrate
into their product). Plus, "roll your own" does nothing more than add weight
to each and every program that adds one.
And to second what Dave Lippincott said, Steve Patt does add meaningful
contributions of a technical nature. Of the three posts to this thread that
you (Philip) have made, I find none of those "adding to the technical
discussion", only non-technical opinions. Steve had very good points about
why programming toward 3rd party printer drivers was beneficial. For
everything that he said, he could have been talking about TealPrint. With
our products, it take less room for us to add support for multiple 3rd party
printer drivers/apps (letting our customers choose which is best) than it
would be for us to write a "roll your own" print driver that supported just
one printer.
