mysterious ExgMgr problem

I'm having an intermittent problem using the Exchange Manager.
Normally everything works fine, but very ocasionally the call
to ExgPut() fails.  In this case, a dialog appears that says
"Could not initialize library", then ExgPut() returns an error 
code of 1.  After a soft reset, it all seems to be fine again. 
Has anyone else see this?
