palmzlib.sourceforge.net, or use the PNG format which uses zlib, and
is part of ZBoxZ (palmboxer.sourceforge.net).

You mean lossy, or non lossless compression.

Or a PNG.  GIFs use a similar type of compression, but there may be
patent problems.
