The best barcode reading solution is from Symbol with their
SPT 1500 and 1700 devices. There are Springboard barcode
readers (for Handspring) from PSC and Symbol, but they are not
as ergonomic.
i) For light duty barcode reading you can use the Symbol 1500
or the Springboard modules.
ii) For medium duty reading use either the 1500 or 1700,
depending on the environment.
iii) For heavy duty reading, use the 1700 because of its batteries.
It also has industrial strength casing, and now has an option to
read 2D barcodes (PDF417).
Symbol also supplies printer drivers for most of the barcode printers
on the market (such as Comtec and Monarch)
