Are you asking about the Palm OS 3.1 Samples that come with the SDK (or with
CodeWarrior, etc.)? There is absolutely no reason to change your Palm OS to
use these samples. I don't think it would ever be a good idea to try to put
an older OS on a device that shipped with a newer OS. It's quite possible
that the old OS would not work on the newer device.
If you are writing code that causes a fatal error and you don't know how to
fix it, post the code and your question and I'm sure someone will be able to
help you.
