how about just grabbing the SDK's and doing a bit of RTFM?
seems to have worked for me.. it takes a while.. but, nothing
beats the SDK documentation - Palm's docs are one of the best
  available in my opinion.

the standard SDK should get you the datatypes and controls..
check out the samples in the SDK for learning palm conventions
and how to extract data from resources (most of the apps you
get in rom/extras are in source form)..

for conduits - get the specific SDK's, they go into a bit more
detail than the standard documentation (as they should)

check the SDK's first.. i would recommend getting the SDK's
in printed format from fatbrain.com - i have them, however,
they are 3.0 style :( would be nice if they did 4.0 ones :)

i rarely buy any books on most topics :)

a good reference guide and some wit is all you need :P

NOTHING is urgent on this list - that word should be used
in filtering posts to palm-dev-forum :) if it was that urgent,
you probably should have planned your project better.

but, we dont need to go into project scheduling topics here.
