A customer of ours will be giving Palms to its sales force, which will be
modem hotsyncing to its head office. The customer wants to allow his staff
to use their devices for whatever purposes they wish, so long as it does not
compromise system performance.

A problem would occur if a user installs a lot of data (such as a bible)
from his local PC. The next time he modem hotsyncs, he would be could be
uploading 1000 times more data than usual (say 3MB as opposed to 3KB). As he
will be sharing a line with other users, this could cause problems.

It strikes me that in this instance we just do not want to run the backup
conduit at all. But their is no no obvious way to turn it off. It does not
appear in the Hotsync Manager's Custom dialog, nor is it listed by the
Conduit Configuration Manager.

Documentation on the Knowledgebase states that the backup conduit is
BAKCN20.DLL, and the dependency walker shows that this DLL has the standard
entry points for a conduit. Now it would be quite easy to replace this by a
conduit that does nothing...

Has anyone tried this? Is there a better solution? Or can anyone see an
obvious reason why it would not work?
