Although I've never used it myself, I've heard plenty of complaints about
Visual SourceSafe.
I (and almost everyone I know) like Perforce. A 2-user server is free
(www.perforce.com), although you can't host the server on Mac OS 9 (you need
Mac OS X, Unix, or NT).
