If you want to "network" several serial devices together with one as the
MASTER and multiple SLAVES, you can use RS232-RS422 converters. RS422 can
me multi-dropped, has better noise immunity and therefore can go farther
than RS232. You can find 232/422 converters from several suppliers - a good
reference is Black Box www.blackbox.com
