i can tell you for sure it is possible to dynamically change the
prc :) so, patching is possible :) been there, done that. you
just cannot patch a program thats in rom :)
dont need to go into the specifics tho :)

its probably important to know exactly what the app is patching
- it may be doing as bobby says :) screwing up a UI resource
and the os is going crazy over it.
